The Creakers

Genre- Children's fiction, Mystery, Fantasy
Author- Tom Fletcher
Tagline- "Lucy woke up to find her mom missing'"

The Creakers is a children's novel by Tom Fletcher. It is about a girl named Lucy DUngston who wakes up to find that her mother is missing. When she goes into the streets, she finds that all the children's parents are missing. Undaunted, she, along with the spoilt mayor's daughter Ella, and Lucy's quirky new friend Norman, lead the mission to find out what has happened to their parents, and explore the new upside-down, topsy-turvy and extremely weird world under their bed.

The story is written in a humorous manner with the author using a conversation-like writing style. Many of the main characters (and villains) are quite funny, enjoyable and relatable. Each of the main characters, their parents and the villains all experience moral growth, making the ending very satisfying. The book is also beautifully illustrated by Shane Devries. The plot, writing style and illustrations are in the style of Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake so will be enjoyed by their fans.

I love the book as it has cute characters, an engaging plot line and its 2 climaxes. The book will leave the reader feeling warm after finishing the book. I also liked the touch of the author warning the reader not to read on due to the scary nature of the book as it was similar to Lemony Snicket warning the reader in ' A Series of Unfortunate Events'.
